Comments
Ted Hamilton started his broadcast career as a singer on radio 2GB, with the "Gladys Moncrieff Show" and the "Ford Show" as the star with the Bob Gibson orchestra. After television started in 1956, he performed and starred in all the seminal television Variety Specials ("Revue 61/62" being the benchmark). The first Australian songwriter to have international stars record his songs (e.g. Glen Campbell, Dean Martin), he also wrote music for Channels 2, 9 and 7 and for prominent Australian artists. In 1969-1973, he starred in the classic drama series "Division 4". In 1969 he founded the 'TV-Make it Australian Committee' which successfully lobbied Prime Minister Gorton to increase Australian content on television. In the mid-1970s and early 1980s he had a number of his own shows on the ABC and Channel 10. The National Film and Sound Archive holds a comprehensive oral history, files and recordings of television programs in which Ted Hamilton appeared, as well as musical scores and other material.
